Next Parent Meeting - Tuesday, 3/26


Please make plans to attend our March Band Boosters general parent meeting to learn more about the upcoming band events. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26. The meetings are typically held on the last Tuesday of each month.


Remember to keep an eye on our web site, Instagram and Facebook accounts for the latest information year-round. The dates of all of our parent meetings (and other events) are listed at the bottom of this email.



Booster Board Nominations Open through 4/15


Band Booster Board nominations are now open! All positions open every year. Email Mr. Ortiz to nominate yourself or someone. You may also announce your nominations at the next booster meeting on March 26. Each nominee will have the opportunity to accept the nomination before the list of candidates is finalized.

If you are interested in helping but don’t know where you might fit best, please email Mr. Ortiz to let him know. We WILL find a spot for you! In addition to the board member positions, we also have committee lead and committee support roles to fill.

All positions must be nominated every year. Positions are listed below. Nominations close April 15.

Log In to Charms - Account


Please log into Charms account and check your balance or make payments. Also, please click on the “Update Info” button and make sure your student and parent address, email address are correct. You can make edits in the system to ensure you don’t miss future updates from us.


Student Charms accounts keep track of all financial obligations and credits throughout the school year. Visit to see where you stand.

  • Click login and then select Parents/Students/Members

  • Enter the school code: bentonvillewestband

  • The Student Area Password is their school ID number. Try with the 4000xxxxx and without xxxxx. If neither works send an email to and Mr. Ortiz will reset your password. Once your password is reset the ID will work.

Bariola’s Spirit Night, Meet and Greet 3/25


All current and future BWHS students are invited to Bariola’s Pizzeria, 1411 E. Centerton Blvd., Centerton, on March 25 starting at 6 p.m. for a spirit night and meet and greet. We’ve invited our rising 9th graders from LJHS and FJHS to attend. This is the Monday immediately following Spring Break.


Please plan to have dinner with Bariola’s and support the band program. If we get enough students we will play pep tunes at Bariola’s.



Order a Band Yearbook by 3/19


If you’d like to own a copy of our 2018-19 BWHS Marching Band yearbook, now is your final chance to make sure you get one before we place the final order. Final deadline is 3/19.


The yearbook features full-color pages of highlights of the band’s year with photography by Toni Hyde, Abby McCain, Amber March and others submitted throughout the year. This year’s yearbook is also designed by Abby as part of the school’s Ignite program.


Yearbooks are $40 each. Payment must be submitted with your order form attached. Please submit payment to the band room at school in a labeled envelope. Make sure to write “Yearbook Order” on the envelope. Seniors will receive one copy of the yearbook for free. We plan to hand out the yearbooks at the awards banquet at the end of the school year. Spirit Nights - Support the Band at Restaurants


We’re working with local restaurants to get the band a portion of sales on spirit nights. Please support these spirit night events to help us raise money for the band program. We’re working on additional dates with some additional restaurants. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for reminders. Here are the dates:


  • Monday, March 25, Bariola’s, 6 p.m.

  • Saturday, April 6th Pure Nutrition 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Pizza Hut Fundraiser


We have a Pizza Hut card fundraiser happening right now. Students may pick up cards in the band office. Each card sells for $10. $6 will go towards the student account for each card sold. Money and ALL UNSOLD CARDS MUST be returned to the band room office by March 25. Any lost cards must be paid for so please take care to not lose any!


All students may participate! This is a GREAT way to get caught up on your Charms account balance if you have fallen behind! $6 per card will go towards Charms.



Volunteers Needed for Jazz Festival


We’re excited to be hosting our very own Jazz Festival this year on May 4. Mr. Spaeth has been working very hard on all the details to make the event a success. We’ll be hosting many bands from other schools throughout the day at BWHS, with a public concert beginning at 7 p.m. that night. Our very own West High Jazz Band will be performing that night along with the Fayetteville Jazz Collective and Concord recording artist, Wayne Bergeron.

If you’d like to help with the event, please save the date on your calendar and let us know. Reply to this email, and we’ll get your name on the list to help! We’ll need the following roles filled. Some can be filled by students or adults:


  • Director/Hospitality room host: 2 people (students or adults)

  • Band guides: 4 people (students or adults)

  • Score/voice recorder runner: 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening (students)

  • Stage announcer: 2 for the day (students)

  • T-shirt booth: 4-6 people (students during the day; adults to help during concert)

  • Ticket sales at the booth in the evening: 3 people (adults)

  • Ticket attendants: 6 people (adults)

  • Ushers: 4-6 people (students or adults)

  • Stage breakdown: Full crew (students or adults)
