Good morning, Wolverine parents.
We had a wonderful first day of band camp! The students have really engaged and are really impressing us with their great attitudes, their ability to learn new concepts quickly, and the camaraderie that is building among them. While we are new and small, the Wolverine Marching Band is already growing into a tight knit family, a spectacle on the field, and a force to reckon with in competition.
With so many of us (students, staff, and parent volunteers) being new to the marching band lifestyle, we are all learning SOOOOO much just from our first day of band camp alone. There are so many nuances to assisting the directors and staff and to supporting the students. Being a freshman parent myself, I never realized so much went into organizing and executing band camp.
In planning out band camp, the Executive Board was super-focused on details such as drinks, snacks, first aid kits, shirts, water jugs, and so on; parents on the Executive Board have been coming in during both the morning and afternoon sessions to ensure that booster support runs smoothly. I am incredibly proud of the ways they have worked so hard to ensure all of our students have a great experience for the next two weeks.
HOWEVER, in all of the planning and executing, I believe we, the WBB leadership, have one area that we overlooked: Giving more parents the opportunity to see what band camp is like and to join in and learn just as we are. This was not intentional, but regardless, I am very sorry for this oversight.
I hope you know by now from all the interactions you’ve had with the WBB leadership that we value our parent community and your feeling like you are part of the family. This is one of those instances I often mention in our meetings where, due to our newness and the fact that we are building this program from scratch, we are learning as we go.
So… to correct this, we are now opening up opportunities for you to join the band camp support team and see what it’s all about. If you are interested in working a session (or more) with the band camp support team, please click on the SignUpGenius link below. If you are unable to work an entire session, but you’d like to visit and catch a glimpse of what Wolverine band camp is like, there will also be a second sign up in this link to let us know you are interested in just checking things out. Attendance limits will have to be applied to help ensure that we are not in the staff’s way or are distracting the students.
Thank you so much for your dedication to your students and to their high school activities. And thank you all for your understanding as we continue to build the Wolverine Band program and the Wolverine Band Boosters. If you have any questions, please let me know.
